The right of a company to exist

What George says here is curious and I wonder if it goes beyond the simple reality that customers decide a company’s success or failure—unless, of course, it becomes the darling of government and then failure is not an option. He chose his words carefully, but did not define his meaning behind “they have no legitimacy, they have no right to exist, no matter how much short-term shareholder value they create.”
